Disability
60The start of a new life
A. I became disabled when I was 18. I was born with a heart condition where the tricuspid valve was bent and pushed down and one side of my heart was larger than the other. I was doing fine til I was 16 and my heart was stopping and repumping. This led to be fainting alot!! I took a tv down with me once and then i tumbled down the stairs due to even though the doctors were giving meds. At the age of 18 I went in for a pacemaker/ defibulator to help this problem. Unfortunately that one did not give a powerful kick to restart my heart. After two my attempts to put new ones in. I was then brought in to Columbia Presybterian Hospital where there they kept me sedated and put in LVAD. While during this surgery they kept me on bypass. While Dr. Oz was doing this surgery someone came in with viable heart and they took me of bypass and gave me a new heart. Unfortunately during surgery I was left on bypass to long and when I woke up I was paralyzed from the neck down. As days when I on I gain back feeling up to my waist. I still could not feel my waist down to my legs. After a few months I got feeling back and with two years of physical therapy I walk with assistance. I have had my heart transplant 13 years of as this year. I take meds to keep my body from rejecting my heart. How awful are those meds? yuck!! But everyone should have a place a vent so please write on here - It is great therapy
